Torrita di Siena

The name Torrita appears for the first time on a Amiata code of 1037. The Castle subject to sovereignty and defense of the Republic of Siena, was protected by a city wall with square towers and four gates: Porta a Pago, Porta Gavina, Porta Nova and Porta a Sole. Later, in 1554 was conquered by Florence and subject to the power of the Medici.
Since the beginning of the twentieth century experienced a great development especially for crafts and woodworking.
The Town Hall of Torrita di Siena dates from the 13th century, but until recently it was subject of many changes and renovations. Located in piazza Giacomo Matteotti, the main square of the village, is the symbol of local power.
